This section is about finding your healthy mindset so that you can thrive with diabetes and be the best version of yourself possible. It’s also about making successful lifestyle changes in the context of who YOU are and what or where YOU WANT to be.

Remember, this is about YOU and YOUR life. The future – YOUR future – is unwritten. You have the power to shape your future from here on. Own your life, and take charge of it; your diabetes too.

If you’re not yet ready to make any commitment or changes then that’s just fine; you will know when you are ready. In the meantime, read this section as many times as you can draw knowledge, direction or comfort from it. Your journey with diabetes is only just beginning. It’s not a race so take your time, and bring you friends and whānau with you.

You might not be in a good place right now. That’s ok. Remember it’s only temporary, it’s just your current reality, and this will change as you start to take control. The key thing is at some stage to commit to change and to move towards it. Making the decision to confront your diagnosis of diabetes or pre-diabetes and tackle issues such as emotional eating (or whatever your challenges are) is half the battle won already.

I will guide you through the process of change. Simply knowing what to do is not enough – when you’ve got as far as knowing then you need to start acting on that knowledge. We will plan the steps needed to make it happen.  And you will take some positive action towards your goals every day.

No self discipline? We can train ourselves into doing what we know we should do even when we feel we don’t want to do it. How? By making ourselves want to do it – that’s the basis of motivation. Simple! (Okay, it might not be that easy, but I’m here to help you find your way)
